Year in Review – 2015
This past year was one of growth here at Arrowstreet. As we celebrated our one-year anniversary at 10 Post Office Square, we also expanded our office with the opening of the “south-side.” We’ve grown our team, adding creative staff to our architecture, graphics, interiors, administrative, and marketing departments, including a new Director of Interiors. We’ve pushed ourselves professionally, celebrated LEED certifications / newly…
450 Kendall’s “Nerve Center”
As part of the design for 450 Kendall Street, Arrowstreet planned for an installation of public art to activate the plaza. Our client, BioMed Realty commissioned New England sculptor Chris Williams to create “Nerve Center,” an illuminated 25-foot-tall metal and glass representation of innovation in Kendall Square. According to Williams, the inspiration for the design came from “Kendall Square’s prominence…
Giving Back with Building Impact
We recently teamed up with nonprofit, Building Impact, to host an in-office volunteering event assembling toiletry kits for two local charities. We held a month-long drive to collect a variety of toiletries including toothpaste, toothbrushes, first aid kits, lip balms, soaps, and shampoos. Our group of volunteers sorted all of the items and then packaged them into individual bags that…
Housing Group Visits Ocean 650
Recently, Arrowstreet’s internal housing group went on the first of two site visits to Ocean 650 in Revere to see how construction was coming along. Ocean 650 is a part of Arrowstreet’s Waterfront Square at Revere Beach masterplan—a transit-oriented, mixed use development adjacent to the Wonderland T station. The 230-unit high-rise building is podium construction—a three-hour fire rated horizontal assembly…
BSA Family Design Day
Join Arrowstreet’s Kachina Studer and Nicole Voss at the BSA for Family Design Day this Saturday for decorating tips and design suggestions from the entrants in the CDRC’s 4th annual Gingerbread House Design Competition. Our ambitious entry of a winter scene at City Hall Plaza required a lot of creativity and hours of teamwork to complete, and we are excited…
Arrowstreet Bake-Off!
We held Arrowstreet’s first bake-off this week, and the results were delicious! We are a competitive group, and there were thirteen entries in the “no-rules” contest, from truffles, madeleines, and macarons, to ice cream, cakes, and tarts. The whole office was eager to try everything and we gathered in the kitchen after lunch for the tasting. The line stretched down the…
Building Minority Report
Last Friday evening one of our new team members, Stephen Zuber, spoke at an Arrowstreet Design Forum about some work he had done with interactive multimedia environments. Right out of the Tom Cruise film “Minority Report,” Stephen’s prior project for a university in Texas involved creating a large display wall which was visible to any viewer in the space, was able…
10 PO Square Community Service Social
Carr Workspaces hosted a Community Service Social for the tenants of 10 Post Office Square. This event was dedicated to supporting local nonprofits and the Arrowstreet team enjoyed socializing with some of our neighbors as we gave back to the community. Team members took part in activities such as making blankets for the homeless while enjoying light refreshments. The event…
Behind “The Science Behind Pixar”
This week, Lauren Haggerty and I had the pleasure of listening to the Museum of Science’s designers talk about “The Science Behind Pixar,” a traveling exhibit currently on display. The Museum of Science has spent the better part of the last few years collaborating with Pixar to accurately show the technical side of what goes into a Pixar movie. A…
Illuminus Boston 2015
It’s the second year an interactive light and sound event lit up the night in Boston. This past weekend, Illuminus, the last event of HUBweek, took over Lansdowne Street and the lower concourse of Fenway Park. This event showcases the creative and boundary-pushing abilities of artists and technology that is at our fingertips. I attended Illuminus last year and was…
