Arrowstreet’s Graphic Design Studio worked closely with the Interior Design Studio to create a warm and welcoming home for The Baker Center, a new, dual-purpose non-profit, which combines an outpatient behavioral health clinic for children and young adults with a state-contracted off-hour crisis call center. Inspired by its lush surroundings and views of the Charles River, nature and greenery were the inspiration for the space. Arrowstreet developed a concept based on a duality of nature – cheerful, saturated blues and greens to energize the clinic, and a muted, softer palettes of blues and grays to imbue the call center with a sense of calm.

Responding to the need to appeal to a wide range of occupants – young children to young adults, clinicians and employees – wall murals at the elevator and lobby feature oversized biophilic designs creating a serene, yet playful, atmosphere for everyone. Friendly critters are discreetly placed where the youngest visitors will spot them giving the mural whimsey while keeping an overall mature feel.

The signage and wayfinding also take cues from the surrounding nature by using soft organic forms and natural colors. To assist in wayfinding, two finishes were used on the signs – bright happy greens guide visitors into spaces meant for them while relaxing wood tones adorn offices and employee zones.

Arrowstreet also designed the exterior signage at the street and entrance, incorporating The Baker Center’s new logo, ensuring a cohesive, enjoyable experience from beginning to end.
