Arrowstreet believes that occupant engagement is the foundation to creating spaces that perform as designed. Occupants of identical buildings can affect annual energy consumption by as much as 300-400 percent based on their unique use of a space. Understanding how occupants use a building, and gaining their commitment to energy conservation goals is key to the overall performance of that building. When design concurrently meets occupants’ programmatic needs and supports energy conservation a culture of positive energy behavior is created.

Arrowstreet has developed a process that we successfully use on our net zero projects. The first step is to create a plan that spans from the pre-design phase through post-occupancy. The following steps implement the plan in an iterative process creating a feedback loop to stakeholders to gain buy-in and lead to operations that meet the energy targets.
