Design for 355 Bennington began in 2020 as the first Net Zero Carbon market-rate multifamily project in Boston. This all-electric building, seeking Phius certification, utilizes passive building principles as a key component of its resilient and healthy design. Additionally resilience measures to minimize the impact of high-temperature events, including the planting of trees along the improved pedestrian streetscape, and measures to minimize the effects of extreme precipitation, such as significant reduction of impervious surface, are incorporated..

The design prioritizes occupant wellness utilizing a variety of strategies including enhanced indoor air quality via filtration, balanced ventilation, and healthy materials, daylighting, natural materials, enhanced thermal comfort, connection to the Greenway, outdoor space with plantings, and new tree canopy to reduce heat island.

The project aims to improve the surrounding neighborhood of Day Square. The reconstructed streetscape provides public amenities along the edge of the project site. In addition it connects Day Square with the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway via an accessible bicycle and pedestrian path for the public.
