New DCR Maintenance Building

As part of the Waterfront Square at Revere Beach development, Arrowstreet is currently designing a new building including restrooms, storage of maintenance and support materials, and DCR offices. The building was carefully sited to maintain line-of-sight between the Arrowstreet-designed South Garage and Pedestrian Bridge and the scenic Revere Beach.

The White Elephant Village Inn

The weather may be turning gray and wintry outside, but the inviting warmth of the White Elephant Village Inn is a perfect getaway. We’ve been working with Nantucket Island Resorts for over 15 years now on a number of their hospitality venues – the Wauwinet Inn, the White Elephant Hotel, the White Elephant Hotel Residences, and now the White Elephant Village Inn

The History of the Canoe Place Inn

I’ve been working lately with Brad Edgerly, David Bois, and Sean Selby on rehabilitating the Canoe Place Inn in the Hamptons. Prominently located overlooking the Shinnecock Canal in Hampton Bays, it has traditionally been a gateway to Hampton Bays when traveling west across the Shinnecock and is the last building you see before entering Shinnecock Hills travelling down the Old Montauk Highway…

Mirbeau Inn & Spa at the Pinehills

An article on the Mirbeau Inn & Spa at the Pinehills appeared in the Business Updates on boston.com today. An excerpt, discussing our work on the architecture:

“Architecture for the inn will be “reminiscent of an old manor house in the countryside of France complete with Monet-inspired gardens…

Understanding Charter School Facility Development

Yesterday morning I was part of a fascinating panel discussion on the critical issues associated with the development of charter school facilities. The workshop was sponsored by Build with Purpose, Nonprofit Finance Fund, and Boston Community Capital, who were recently jointly awarded a $3.3 million federal Credit Enhancement grant to support the development of high quality charter school facilities throughout the northeast. The panel featured experts in charter school finance, law, architecture, and real estate development in an interactive discussion about the process of developing new school facilities…

Artists for Humanity on Chronicle

Artists for Humanity was featured in a Chronicle piece on teens creating public art in Boston. The video shows some nice shots of the students creating a mural in a studio of the EpiCenter building we designed for the non-profit. Find out more about the creation of the beautiful 30′x70′ mural that now beautifies a previously defaced building in Roxbury at AFH’s blog.

L.L. Bean Danbury Opens!

Arrowstreet and L.L. Bean teamed up again to open a new store at the Danbury Fair Mall, in Connecticut. Since recently acquiring the mall, Macerich has repositioned a vacant department store into a format of mid-size tenants, like Forever 21, Dick’s, Cheesecake Factory and now, LL Bean. Our task was to give the Danbury shopper a taste of the Maine company’s catalog of comfortable clothes and outdoor adventure. It starts on the porch with its heavy timber posts and beams, and continues inside where customers can try on Bean boots, polo shirts or even a colorful array of kayaks. We’ve designed many of LL Bean’s stores, but this one was special: the grand opening was July 13th, the week after L.L. Bean celebrated their 100th birthday. We’re honored to be a part of this celebration, and even more proud to be part of the team.

Magic Beans at the Prudential Center

Arrowstreet has been helping Boston Properties with retail tenant coordination at the Shops at Prudential Center for years, so when Magic Beans signed a lease in the retail mecca in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay we were happy to assist them. Magic Beans is a locally-owned mom & pop store that sells toys, strollers, car seats, and baby gear. Their brand is upscale, their service is high-quality and attentive, and their store design needed to match who they are. The space we designed for them is colorful and easily accessible, with the merchandise areas coded by their branded colors. It’s packed with toys and gear, but spacious where needed for equipment testing. And to occupy the little ones while mom is settling the bill, a set up of figurines in a full landscape is built into the cabinetry underneath the check-out counter.

Harvard Square Hotel

Arrowstreet’s design for the Harvard Square Hotel has recently been realized with the re-opening and re-launch as a boutique hotel following the three month renovations. A complete transformation of the hotel, we worked with Harvard to update the image and improve the overall guest experience. To improve the entrance to the hotel, Arrowstreet established a connection to the street and created a lobby seating area with panoramic views of Harvard Square. At the street entrance, we designed stone and glass monumental stair to invite guests from the Mt. Auburn street entry to the lobby and reception area. Integral to the renovation was the complete reconfiguration of the lobby levels, doubling space available to guests to create contemporary, comfortable public space…
