m-pac Assessment Tool

A tool for assessing military base planning strategies and their impacts on community success and future development.

As part of an initiative called Creating Active Communities and Healthy Environments (CACHE), Arrowstreet partnered with the Army Public Health Command to develop a tool to measure and track how well a military installation’s physical environment is performing against various health outcome metrics. Among others, the tool measures the success of food facilities, retail outlets, schools, and workplaces by their accessibility and connection to walking and biking infrastructure. The tool also aims to support dense and mixed-use neighborhoods that provide service members and their families a healthy and sustainable quality of life.

The tool has allowed the United States Military to compare their many installations across the country, evaluate their facilities against a desired baseline, and make actionable and data-driven decisions to ensure they meet their goals.
