IKEA at Urriðaholt

Arrowstreet proposed organizing this project, which had been stalled in the approvals process, around the concept of respect for the environment and sensitivity to the surrounding area. Working around existing lava fields, the design concepts and materials integrate the spirit of the natural surroundings. Lava from the site is incorporated into the façade of the building. Glass corners and stair enclosures provide a visual contrast to other materials and offer direct views into the life and activity of the store interior.
