A late summer storm may have scuttled the stroll, but it couldn’t put a damper on design-centric fun. The most recent edition of Arrowstreet’s walking tour series, scheduled to explore the Fenway area, was rained out, but our team made an evening out of visiting a new concept store and artist studio in the neighborhood.
The changing face of urban retail has given rise to pop-up spaces like Hourglass, an exciting collaboration from two Boston creatives. Erin Robertson, fashion designer and Project Runway Season 15 winner, and Nicole Fichera, interior and product designer, conceived of the project as a supportive environment that’s part retail experience, part photo and content studio, and part workshop and event space. In addition to curated product lines from local artists and designers, Hourglass offers a series of endlessly Instagrammable props and sets for both professional and impromptu photo shoots. The founders also prioritized meaningful engagement, with workshops geared towards creative professionals and entrepreneurs.
In a city renowned for innovation, we’re always excited to see the emergence of a dynamic new space for creatives and Arrowstreet is proud to have partnered with Hourglass on an innovative installation for the pop-up. Interdisciplinary creative dialogue is particularly important to our process, and we worked with Hourglass to implement a machine-learning enabled camera that tracks visitor patterns and trends.
These types of collaborations provide unique, multi-faceted insights that strengthen understanding within and between creative communities. And understanding can be some of the most powerful fodder for inspiration – though, to look at the team’s pictures from our night at Hourglass, that honor might go to the space’s colorful art, chic accessories, and one killer intergalactic puffer coat.
Hourglass is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 7pm until the end of September. Pop by this one-of-a-kind pop-up at 1327 Boylston Street and be sure your phone’s charged – you’re not going to want to miss these photo ops!
