A group of Arrowstreet’s staff recently entered a design competition promoting innovative outdoor play spaces in Philadelphia. Hosted by the Community Design Collaborative and Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children, the competition invited teams to choose one of three public sites—a school, a library, and a recreation center—and create plans for a new outdoor space. Arrowstreet’s team worked with Landscape Architect’s at Copley Wolff Design Group to create a sprawling urban playground connected with a loop of experiences composed of community customizable wood towers. This urban playspace fosters community engagement, harnesses water runoff, and links open play spaces, a water play garden, and community garden beds. Finalists will be announced on February 15th.
