Every year, BuildingGreen names the ten best green building products “transforming the design and construction industry” and helping to solve environmental problems. One product we are particularly excited about is Tesla’s Powerwall and Powerpack Onsite Energy Storage. As we work towards designing more energy efficient multi-family housing, the use of alternative fuel sources (such as solar panels) becomes more effective. However, buildings are typically limited to direct use of the electricity generated by solar panels during the day, and any use at night comes from power provided by utility companies. With the addition of Tesla’s home battery, buildings are offered the chance for complete independence from the grid. Not only will this reduce our reliance on electricity generated from standard fuel sources, it will also provide a back-up source of energy should we experience power outages in increasingly frequent weather emergencies.
